Privacy Policy

Effective July 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Zapp(“Zapp”, “we”, “us”), an Android app developed by TheAtoms, handles information when you use the app. Zapp lets you send files directly between nearby devices over Wi-Fi Direct or a local hotspot — no account and no cloud upload required.

1. Files you transfer stay off our servers

Zapp moves files directly from one device to another over a local Wi-Fi Direct or hotspot connection. Transferred files are never uploaded to, stored on, or visible to any server we operate. We do not have access to the content, names, or contents of the files you send or receive.

2. Information we collect

Display name

The name you set in the app is stored on your device and shared only with the specific device you're connecting to, so it can identify you during a transfer. It is not sent to or stored on our servers.

Usage & diagnostics (Firebase Analytics)

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (screens viewed, features used, crash and performance data) and to fix bugs. This data is tied to an anonymous device identifier, not your name or files.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

Free-tier use of Zapp shows ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your advertising ID and general, non-precise location to show relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device's ad settings, or remove ads entirely with a one-time Premium purchase.

Push notifications (OneSignal / Firebase Cloud Messaging)

If notifications are enabled, we use OneSignal and Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver transfer-progress and completion alerts. This requires a device push token, which is not linked to your file contents.

Purchases (Google Play Billing)

The optional lifetime Premium unlock is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made, not your payment details — those are handled by Google.

3. Permissions Zapp requests

Each permission below is used only for the purpose listed. You can review or revoke any of them from your device's Settings at any time.

  • Camera

To scan a QR code and connect to another device.

  • Location

Required by Android to discover nearby devices over Wi-Fi Direct — Zapp does not track or store your location.

  • Nearby Wi-Fi devices

To find and connect to nearby devices for transfer (Android 12+).

  • Notifications

To show transfer progress and completion alerts.

  • Photos, videos & audio

To let you pick the files you want to send.

  • All files access

To let you send file types beyond media, such as documents and APKs, from your device storage.

4. How we use information

We use the information above to operate and improve Zapp, diagnose and fix crashes, show ads to free-tier users, deliver notifications you've opted into, and process Premium purchases. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Third-party services

Zapp uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google — Firebase Analytics, Firebase Cloud Messaging, AdMob, and Play Billing
  • OneSignal — push notifications

6. Data retention

Your display name and app preferences are stored locally on your device until you uninstall Zapp or clear its app data. Analytics and advertising data are retained by Google/OneSignal according to their own retention policies.

7. Children's privacy

Zapp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Security

File transfers happen over a direct, local Wi-Fi Direct/hotspot connection between your devices. While no method of transmission is 100% secure, we don't route your files through any server we control, which removes an entire class of server-side risk.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
